In the early morning hours of March 29th, officers from the Gananoque Police investigated a vehicle on King Street East that was experiencing apparent mechanical issues. Upon speaking to the driver of the vehicle, officers noted signs of impairment by alcohol. The driver was given a demand to provide a sample of his breath into a Roadside Screening Device and he refused. The driver was arrested and charged with Refuse Breath Demand. The 37-year-old man of no fixed address was released and will appear in court at a later date and is subject to a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension.
April 1, 2023
In the early morning hours of April 1st, the Gananoque Police received several dropped 9-1-1 calls. Through a series of investigative techniques, police were able to locate the phone subscriber who directed police a parking lot on Queen Street where a couple were camping for the night and it was believed the calls originated from the couple. Officers attended and located a male and female. Both parties were interviewed and police left the scene as no criminality was determined.
Shortly after clearing the scene Police received a 9-1-1 call from a nearby resident, asking police to re-attend as a woman could be heard screaming. Officers attended and, as a result, of the events that transpired an 18-year-old Kingston man was arrested for one count of Domestic Assault Causing Bodily Harm. The female victim was transported to hospital via Ambulance and later released with what is believed to be minor injuries.
The male was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Gananoque Police Service Officially Joins the Provincial Bail Compliance Dashboard - The Gananoque Police Service has onboarded onto the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Provincial Bail Compliance Dashboard (PBCD), aimed at monitoring and sharing information about individuals on bail for firearms-related offences and/or crimes against the person offences. - The PBCD is a situational awareness and investigative tool, managed by the OPP, that provides cross- jurisdictional and inter-agency data to assist Ontario’s police officers with managing individuals on bail in the community. - The dashboard provides critical information about offenders released on bail for a broader range of high-risk offender. On September 23, 2024, during the evening hours, officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver was unable to produce a valid driver’s licence. The individual was subsequently identified and found to be driving while suspended. Further investigation revealed the 39-year-old driver was also bound by a release order on unrelated charges, which included a curfew condition. The driver was arrested and searched, and officers located a knife and cash on their person. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a collapsible steel baton, a knife, a scale, a pipe, and approximately 29.6 grams of methamphetamine. As a result, the 39-year-old resident of Elgin was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking — methamphetamine, Possession of a Weapon Contrary to a Prohibition Order, Breach of Recognizance, and Driving While Under Suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. On April 2, 2026, the accused was convicted of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking — methamphetamine, and Breach of Recognizance. The Ontario Court of Justice granted 213 days of pre-sentence custody credit for time served and imposed a suspended sentence with 18 months of probation. The accused was also issued a lifetime weapons prohibition.
