Youth In Policing Initiative Program

The Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) was originally developed by the Ministry of Child and Youth Services (MCYS) as a part of the government’s strategy to address the growing needs of our local youth. The initiative is two-fold; it provides and promotes participation in, and exposure to the work environment through diverse, educational and productive work assignments while helping to bridge the gap between the police agency and the young person.

The YIPI program has been a successful program in Gananoque since 2008. The Program is fully funded by the MCYS and runs each summer for a period of 8 weeks. Each summer the Gananoque Police Service hires students who work as Town Ambassadors assisting with local events, participating in fundraising initiatives as well as getting exposure to a career in policing.

Every year the YIPI students travel and participate in the Seminar hosted by Durham Regional Police Service called the Youth Movement. The event gathers all YIPI students across the province and empowers students to become ambassadors of change within their community.
